The corfu airport runway is known for it’s “ocean approach”. Tourists fly in along the eastern coast of the island before taking a final turn towards the runway. During the day, this is an amazing view as you pass by Messogi, Moraitika, Agios Ioannis and Benitses. As the aircraft descends, the blue Ionion seas pass before your eyes as you begin the final approach to Corfu Airport. Although it may feel like you’re landing in the sea the runway soon approaches as you touch down in Corfu.
There is an amazing spot to get to if you have a chance. It’s a walk way out into the sea located at the south of the runway where you can sit an watch the planes fly in over head, it’s a surreal experience – here’s a Google map to the location.
We decided to prop out the tripod and mount our 360° camera to this walkway. Here’s is a British Airways flight from Manchester, UK coming into land last summer (2016). Enjoy!
Note, this will need to be viewed on a mobile device to use the 360° functionality of your phone.
